Beyond the Classroom

At Reddam House Sydney, we believe that preparation for life beyond school is shaped just as much by what happens outside the classroom as within it.

Our extensive offering of clubs, co-curricular and extracurricular activities span the creative and performing arts, public speaking, specialist academies, and a wide array of sports. These opportunities not only allow students to pursue their passions and discover new interests but also help them build friendships and develop essential qualities such as confidence, leadership, teamwork and resilience.

Through this rich and varied program, students grow into well-rounded individuals – equipped with the personal strengths and life skills needed to thrive in an ever-changing world.

Sport at Reddam House Sydney

Sport at Reddam is not compulsory, yet each week hundreds of students choose to participate with energy and pride. More than 70 teams compete across volleyball, football, netball, and basketball, alongside squads of surfers, fencers, mountain bikers, climbers, and cross-country runners. Others find their rhythm in yoga, the gym, or morning tennis sessions.

Remarkably, all of this takes place without dedicated sporting facilities, a testament to our students’ drive and the strength of our community spirit. Whether through after-school clubs, enrichment activities, field trips or weekend matches, Reddam House Sydney fosters the personal qualities and skills that help shape tomorrow’s leaders.

Phil Kable

Head of Primary Sport

Phil Kable

Phil Kable’s career in education was shaped early by the exceptional PE teachers who inspired him throughout his schooling. Determined to follow in their footsteps, he graduated from the Australian College of Physical Education and began his professional journey as Sportsmaster at Mosman Prep School. Over seven successful years, he was promoted to Senior Master and established himself as a dedicated leader in school sport.

Phil’s next move was to Cranbrook School, where he was appointed Director of Sport and Head of Physical Education. In 1997, he also became Senior Boarding Master, relocating on campus with his wife and three children. During his tenure at Cranbrook, Phil completed a Bachelor of Education at the University of Wollongong and later a Master of Education at the University of Sydney. After fifteen years of service, he was introduced to Mr Graham Crawford, whose shared vision for sport and education led Phil to join Reddam House in 2004.

Since arriving at Reddam House, Phil has played a pivotal role in shaping an innovative and student-centred sports and academy program spanning Kindergarten to Year 12. Under his leadership, the school has embraced a holistic approach, offering students opportunities to participate in both community and school sporting associations. This philosophy prioritises student growth and wellbeing over premierships, fostering strong camaraderie and helping athletes excel at the highest levels - including representation for Australia across multiple sports and appearances at the Olympic Games.

Phil also champions the development of lifelong skills through Reddam’s Academy Programme, which includes sailing, mountain biking, yoga, stand-up paddleboarding, gym training and surfing. By integrating non-competitive, health-focused activities, he ensures students cultivate a love of movement and wellbeing that will stay with them long beyond school.

Sports Competitions

Reddam House Sydney students actively participate in a wide range of local sports competitions throughout the year, representing the school with pride and determination. From inter-school leagues and regional tournaments to state-level championships, our athletes compete across multiple codes including swimming, fencing, athletics, football, netball, basketball, touch football, tennis, and more.

These events foster school spirit, teamwork, and resilience—providing students with valuable opportunities to test their skills, strive for excellence, and celebrate sporting success at every level.
