A closer look at our cycle testing approach
The article spotlights Reddam’s cycle testing program, which sees students from Year 3 upwards complete regular assessments designed to build consistency, strong study habits and confidence over time. The Herald observed cycle test day in action, including the calm, supportive environment created by staff—such as guided breathing and clear reminders to students that a test result reflects performance on the day, not personal worth.
Head of Primary Kylie Chacon explained that cycle testing is about more than academics: it supports students to push for their personal best and helps teachers use data to reflect on instruction and target support. The article also notes the additional tutoring provided before and after school to assist students who need help consolidating learning.
Building confident communicators through public speaking
Another key feature of the Herald’s visit was Reddam’s emphasis on public speaking, including structured lessons where students practise delivery, eye contact and clarity, and learn how to give and receive constructive feedback. The article describes a Year 6 public speaking lesson and also highlights dedicated weekly public speaking classes for students in Years 7–9, designed to equip learners with the confidence to express ideas clearly—skills that serve them well beyond school.
A school focused on preparation for life
Harris also reflects on the school’s broader approach: an academic culture that encourages motivation and curiosity, an environment that supports individuality, and a clear expectation that students contribute positively to the classroom and community. The article includes observations from staff and students on what makes learning at Reddam distinctive—from specialist teaching in key subject areas to a consistent focus on effort, growth and character.
We are proud to see our students, teachers and wider school community represented in such a thoughtful piece.
