Earlier this year, the Senior Choir competed at the Sydney Eisteddfod, performing alongside schools with long-established choral traditions. Singing as part of a massed choir of approximately 250 choristers, our students delivered a powerful performance and progressed to the prestigious Australasian Championship for Youth Choirs—a significant achievement in itself.
Last weekend, the choir’s journey reached a new milestone as 114 members of the combined Reddam House Senior Choirs travelled to Canberra to compete in the National Eisteddfod. The two-night tour offered students a valuable opportunity to refine their choral technique, perform at a high level and strengthen friendships across the ensemble. Between rehearsals and performances, students also enjoyed a range of social activities, including movies, dinner and visits to local markets—building memories alongside musical excellence.
The competition featured a particularly high standard across all sections, made even more challenging by the inclusion of a work composed by the adjudicator, renowned Australian composer and conductor Paul Jarman. Our students rose confidently to the occasion, producing performances that impressed both audience and adjudicators. The Chamber Choir was awarded Second Place, while the Senior Choir achieved an outstanding First Place in their respective sections—bringing two trophies proudly home to Reddam House Sydney.
Among the adjudicator’s many positive comments was special recognition of our student band, who accompanied the Senior Choir’s winning performance of Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol, helping bring the arrangement to life with maturity and musicality.
We extend our sincere thanks to the parents who travelled to Canberra to support the choir. Having familiar faces in the audience made a meaningful difference to our students and contributed to the warmth and success of the tour. The support of our Reddam House community continues to play an important role in helping our musicians thrive.
Our staff were also full of praise for the students throughout the trip, noting how hardworking, focused and motivated they were in striving for their best. This success reflects not only the choir’s musical talent, but also their commitment, teamwork and determination.
Next, the Senior Choir looks forward to a major highlight on the school calendar: the Reddam House 25th Anniversary Concert at Sydney Town Hall in Term 4. From competition stages to national recognition, our students have shown what is possible when young people work together with passion and purpose—and we could not be prouder.
